Buy lime sulfur
It is an essential element for the growth of excellent plants. The presence of sulfur in the structure of biotin, sulfur amino acids, has played a key role in activating many enzymes, protein formation and modulating the toxicity of some heavy elements in plants. Besides its nutritional role for plants, it is considered as a modifier in calcareous, sodium and saline soils to improve some physical and chemical properties of soil.
Strategies for improving calcareous soils in agriculture
Basically, changing soil pH is a difficult task. Soil pH is usually considered as a constant property and does not change much. Because the soil has a buffer or unit property and is resistant to pH changes. Therefore, it is recommended to select and cultivate the plant according to soil ph.
To change the pH of the soil, lime is added to acidic soils, and as a result the pH of the soil increases, which is what happens in European countries and humid climates, and the problem with their soils is that they have to increase the pH through the consumption of lime. The problem of Iranian soil is its high pH and alkalinity.
To reduce the pH of the soil, we must use several pH modifiers. This means that in some places we add sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid to the soil through irrigation. However, the use of acid is difficult and associated with side effects, and it is recommended to use sulfur to reduce soil ph.
The role of sulfur in soil remediation
The element sulfur added to the soil is oxidized by the bacterium Thiobacillus (present in the soil) to produce sulfuric acid, which changes the pH of the soil, but the decrease in soil pH is not great, but only by a unit of ph. In another method, the pH of the soil is reduced locally to eliminate its negative effects.
For example, they select a small amount of potting soil (about 0.2 of the total potting soil) and reduce its ph. When the plant roots reach that part of the soil, it receives its elements in a suitable environment. Another method is to use acidic fertilizers. Application of ammonium sulfate fertilizer in part can reduce soil pH.
